Serving this large historic parks and parkway system is a collaborative effort. Olmsted City works closely with the Utica Parks Department, which provides whatever material support it can to our mission. The City also keeps the lawns mowed in the parks and parkway and removes dead and diseased trees. However, the ability of the City to contribute financially to the work that needs to be done is very limited. It does its best, and Olmsted City was founded to help make up the difference.
Olmsted City is a volunteer-driven organization that welcomes contributions for specific purposes and will carry out those purposes if they are consistent with the historic character of this system and meets with the approval of City authorities, since these parks do not belong to Olmsted City or any other private organization but are instead held in trust by the City for their true owners, the people of Utica. However, what we generally need most are general financial contributions to help defray the cost of doing what we regularly do.
